Compiled financial statements represent the lowest level of assurance provided by a CPA with respect to financial statements. A CPA or accounting firm assists a business or organization in presenting its financial information in a structured format, following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). A review engagement is a type of service where an independent accountant provides limited assurance that a company's financial statements are in conformity with the applicable financial reporting framework, such as GAAP. Reviews provide limited assurance, also known as negative assurance. This means the accountant reports if they are aware of any necessary material modifications to the financial statements for them to comply with the applicable framework. This is a lower level of assurance compared to an audit, which provides reasonable assurance. Reviews can increase the credibility of financial statements for stakeholders who don't require an audit's level of assurance.
